PAINTED BATHROOM CABINETS || before + after

IMG_4992.jpg

A few months ago I decided to paint our master bathroom cabinets.  Although we hope to remodel that space eventually, it falls very low on the priority list.  It functions and it is clean, by clean I mean not falling apart ;-).  There is no need to move that project to the top of the list, we have plenty more 'urgent' projects that need to be tackled!  But, I still want to start making changes!

The original maple cabinets are in good shape and they were very easy to paint.  I used a rough grit sand paper to scuff up the cabinets.  I scrubbed them down well with TSP and warm soapy water.  I wiped the damp cabinets with a dry cloth and waited for everything to be completely dry.  Easy-peasy!

I knew that I wanted to slightly distress the cabinets.  I wanted black to show through when I distressed.  Instead of painting the entire cabinet black {GRAPHITE}, I painted one, thin coat along the edges, where I planned on distressing.  I rubbed the edges with a hard beeswax so that when I sanded the second color, the black would show through, not the original maple.

I applied two coats of FRENCH LINEN and then lightly sanded the edges to reveal the black paint underneath.  I waxed with Annie Sloan's clear wax.  The original hardware was a bit modern for my taste.  They must have been a custom size because I couldn't find any knobs or pulls that would match the existing drilled holes!  Instead of filling and sanding the existing hardware holds and then re-drilling new holes, Matt cut down a sheet of metal to make metal plates.  We sprayed them with a matte black textured spray paint and we used that to attach the new hardware.  Still time consuming, but not as time consuming as filling/sanding/drilling new holes would have been!

There is a lot we want to do to this space with the timing is right.  But for now, I will keep making simple changes and 'tweaking' it here and there ;-)

BATHROOM INSPIRATION

I am working on a floor plan for some local clients.  They are a sweet couple with two equally sweet children, and they live in a darling old house, just a few blocks from us.  They are looking to remodel one of their bathrooms, and I thought I would share some of the photos I used for inspiration.

The house is an old Craftsman.  The owner loved the idea of an apron/farm style sink.

I don't blame her, I love the idea as well!

We also decided to go with a clawfoot tub/shower combo instead of a walk-in tiled shower.

Flooring and wall covering will most likely be determined by the budget.

BEFORE & AFTER :: a master bathroom remodel

I guess this isn't technically a 'before + after' post, because I can't seem to find any 'before' photos!  So, below are a few 'after' photos of the master bathroom Matt remodeled for the lovely clients who live on the golf course.  Their other two bathrooms were the most recent 'before + after' posts.....

The finished bathroom now has two vanities, a his + hers.

The window adds great natural light and the plantation shutter add plenty of privacy.

The walls and floor received new stone....

More of the split faced marble that we saw in their den bathroom.  Isn't it beautiful?!?

The pendants add a lovely feminine touch.

I am so sorry that I don't have 'before' photos!!  I hope you enjoyed the few 'after' photos that we snapped!

Have a lovely Easter weekend!

BEFORE & AFTER :: guest bath remodel

232323232 fp5325nu324725967WSNRCG34-6-66327nu0mrj.jpg

It's been a little over a year since we completed three bathroom remodels for some lovely clients in McMinnville.

They have a beautiful Ranch style home on the golf course.  They had updated the kitchen a few years ago and it was time to update the bathrooms.

What fun!!  Below are 3 BEFORE pictures.....

232323232fp5323->nu=3247>259>6;7>WSNRCG=34-6<;6;--327nu0mrj

This bathroom was classic 1970's, complete with a purple toilet, sink and bathtub....

232323232fp53245>nu=3247>259>6;7>WSNRCG=34-6<;6;;2327nu0mrj

The bathroom had one window...perfect for allowing a bit of natural light!!

232323232fp53257>nu=3247>259>6;7>WSNRCG=34-6<;6;;3327nu0mrj

The bathtub was in really good shape, we opted to have it refinished instead of replaced.

AFTER::

Lovely, don't you think?

Matt built beautiful, distressed, hickory cabinetry.  I love how the cabinetry really warms up the space.

232323232fp53256>nu=3247>259>6;7>WSNRCG=34-6<;-;47327nu0mrj

It took a few tries to find the perfect stain color.  The persistence paid off, don't you think?

I love the marble countertops!  Clean, classy and timeless.

And the marble floors.....so classic.

232323232fp5326->nu=3247>259>6;7>WSNRCG=34-6<;-;49327nu0mrj

The tub finished out really well, it looks brand new!  If your bathtub is in good shape, refinishing is such great way to save money.

Notice the white subway tile wainscoting in the back ground?  Subway tile is still one of my favorite tiles!

232323232fp53256>nu=3247>259>6;7>WSNRCG=34-6<;-;64327nu0mrj

The homeowner installed grasscloth wall paper.  The texture is a beautiful addition to the bathroom!

One more photo of the vanity......

If you love this bathroom, wait until I show you the other two!  The homeowner had great taste, it was so fun to work with her!

Until then, have a wonderful weekend!

xoxo~
